In 1933, Virgil Andyberry Henson started V.A. Henson as a one man hauling business. From there it was transformed into a grading business, alongside a concrete business. In 1953 the name was changed to Henson and Sons. In 1958, we became Hensons’ Inc. upon being incorporated in the state of South Carolina. In 1979, under the ownership of Virgil Mack Henson and Ellis M. Fincher, Jr., Hensons’ Inc. performed strictly grading and utility work. During the aftermath of 1989’s Hurricane Hugo in Gaston County, NC we performed grinding work and the rest is history. We had found our driving force built on years of experience in operating heavy equipment, professionalism while on jobsites and a keen eye for safety. With a commitment to quality, service and efficiency, Hensons’ is prepared to lead the way in improving the environment while helping our customers control costs through recycling.
With an excess of material, places to store it was imperative; therefore, in 1995 we opened our first Mulch & More yard. Currently, we operate seven yards, with five of them serving as permitted wood waste recycling centers where we receive and process wood waste into a quality mulch and soil products. In 2004 under Ellis M. Fincher, Jr. as President and Trey Fincher as Vice President, it was realized that with changing times we would need to expand our vision. Over the years, our Mulch & More yards have grown in order to more suitably accommodate our customers with more than just mulch products. We are fully stocked with sand, stone, rocks, along with other durable products to better the appearance of our customer’s landscapes. By having numerous products in one location we have enabled our customers to find all their landscape supply needs at one establishment. We sell to homeowners and landscapers alike as we are able to sell material in quantities as low as a quarter of a cubic yard to full tractor trailer loads.
In 2011, we began providing Property Management as a service to help effectively and efficiently clear and maintain one’s property at a level of cleanliness. Through the use of a Skid Steer with mulcher and a Track Hoe with brush cutter we can help you reclaim for property by clearing away unsightly debris.
At the end of 2012, ownership and management of the company was passed down, back into the Henson bloodline, to Trey Fincher (President) and Amber Fincher – McEntire (Vice President). Through the years we have been innovative, changing with the times, but always done with a quality of work maintained within our employees from generation to generation.
